How to play

Guess the country of the mystery world leader. Each wrong guess reveals clues to help narrow down the answer.

GoalIdentify the country connected to the mystery leader before you run out of guesses.

Leader imageThe portrait starts blurred and becomes clearer after incorrect guesses.

Daily and random playThe daily puzzle is the same for everyone. Random mode lets you practise with additional leaders.

After each wrong guess, the game compares your guessed country with the mystery country.

Continent hintYou are told whether the guessed country is on the correct continent. Continent hints are based on the country’s capital city.

Distance hintEach guess gets a 5-square emoji bar that becomes greener as the guess gets geographically closer. Distances are based on the rough geographic centre of both countries.

Corruption hintYou are told whether your guessed country is more corrupt, similarly corrupt, or less corrupt than the mystery country.

Serving hintThe top right of the portrait indicates how long the leader has served in their current position.

Head of role hintThe top left badge shows whether the leader is a head of state, a head of government, or both in one merged entry.

The corruption clue uses country-level CPI scores, not any judgement about an individual leader.

Score sourceScores use Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2025. The CPI scores 182 countries and territories by perceived public-sector corruption.

What the score meansThe CPI uses a 0–100 scale: 0 means highly corrupt and 100 means very clean. In this game, a lower score means “more corrupt” and a higher score means “less corrupt”.

How the score is calculatedThe CPI combines 13 external expert and business-survey sources. Each source is standardised to the 0–100 CPI scale; a country is scored only when at least three sources are available.

How the game uses it“Similar” means within 5 CPI points. Some countries show “No data” when they are not included in the CPI 2025 results.
